"Stars but no burst: dwarf galaxies are simpler, quieter than thought"
Oleg Gnedin (U. Michigan)

Dwarf satellite galaxies in the Local Group display a variety of luminosities, metallicities, and star formation histories.  However, new modeling of the statistical ensemble of their stellar populations, resolved by HST, reveals more similarities than differences.  The majority of dwarfs did not experience bursts of star formation but instead formed their stars gradually over the cosmic time.  Association of dwarf galaxies with dark matter subhalos leads to a natural minimum halo mass to host a galaxy.
