Supermassive black holes (SMBHs) can rip apart stars, quench star formation, and destroy planetary atmospheres. However, results from some of my recent papers show that SMBHs may not be quite as destructive as previously thought. In fact, from both a dynamical and radiative perspective, they may even be engendering. I shall explain why.
